Hire a Bentley Flying Spur in the UK

The Bentley Flying Spur is the current four door flagship saloon from Bentley, the car that replaced the Mulsanne as the brand’s primary grand touring saloon and represents the most dynamically capable four-door Bentley currently in production. The third generation Flying Spur, launched in 2019, is built on the MSB platform shared with the Porsche Panamera and uses the same 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 engine as the Continental GT, producing 650HP and 900Nm of torque. It reaches 60mph in 3.8 seconds and 207mph, which is the same top speed as the Continental GT coupe despite the Flying Spur being 483mm longer and carrying a full four-door saloon body. The all-wheel drive system uses rear-biased torque distribution, the same approach as the Continental GT and the Flying Spur can direct up to 100% of torque to the rear axle in normal driving conditions. At 2,437kg it is a heavy car, but the active air suspension with 60mm of ride height adjustment manages that weight more effectively than the previous generation’s passive system. The Flying Spur also has rear wheel steering as standard, reducing the turning circle from what you would expect for a 5,290mm car and making it genuinely manageable in urban environments.

Flying Spur vs Bentley Mulsanne – The Difference

The Flying Spur and the Bentley Mulsanne occupy different positions in the Bentley hierarchy despite both being four-door saloons. The Mulsanne was Bentley’s formal flagship, a longer, heavier, rear-wheel drive car on its own dedicated platform with a hand-built 6.75-litre V8. Production ended in 2020. The Flying Spur is the current active four-door Bentley, all-wheel drive, on the MSB platform, with a W12 that is faster than the Mulsanne’s V8 by 1.3 seconds to 60mph. The Flying Spur is the better driver’s car. The Mulsanne was the more formal rear seat car. For a self-drive UK hire in a four door Bentley, the Flying Spur is the current recommendation. For a formal rear-seat experience in a car that is no longer in production, the Mulsanne is the choice.

The Flying Spur Interior

The Flying Spur cabin is available with Bentley’s full personalisation programme through the Mulliner division. The standard specification includes hand-stitched leather across the dashboard, door cards and seats, with 15 hide colours available as standard and over 60 as special order. The rear seats offer 60:40 split-folding or individual executive seating configurations, and each rear door houses a 10.9-inch tablet for rear passenger entertainment and climate control. The optional rotating centre console rises from the rear transmission tunnel and provides a writing surface, storage and additional connectivity ports for rear passengers. The Naim for Bentley audio system is an available option using 18 speakers with 1,100 watts of power, calibrated specifically for the Flying Spur cabin.

The Flying Spur on UK Roads

On UK motorways the Flying Spur covers distance with the same composed refinement as the Continental GT coupe. Wind and road noise suppression is exceptional at motorway speeds and the ride quality from the active air suspension keeps the cabin isolated from surface imperfections on UK A roads and motorways. The rear-wheel steering reduces the sense of the car’s length in town and on country roads. The W12 provides effortless motorway overtaking at any speed and the dual-clutch gearbox delivers fast, smooth changes in sport mode when the road opens up. For long drives from London to Edinburgh, Manchester to Cornwall or cross country routes through the Welsh mountains, the Flying Spur combines the pace of the Continental GT with four genuine adult seats, a combination that no other car in the Bentley fleet offers at the same level.

The Bentley Flying Spur is also available with a professional driver through our Bentley chauffeur service.
