The Ferrari Portofino is a front mid-engine grand tourer convertible and the most accessible car in the Ferrari hire fleet. It is powered by a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 600HP and 760Nm of torque, reaching 60mph in 3.5 seconds and 199mph flat out. The retractable hardtop folds in 14 seconds at speeds up to 28mph. It seats two adults in the front with a 2+2 rear seat arrangement, making it practical for shorter rear-seat journeys in a way the 488 Spider and F8 Spider are not. The front mid-engine layout places the engine behind the front axle rather than in the middle of the car, giving it a more relaxed, grand tourer character compared to the more focused rear mid engine sports cars in the fleet.

The Ferrari Portofino and the
Ferrari 488 Spider are both open-top Ferrari convertibles with twin-turbo V8 engines and retractable hardtops. The fundamental difference is the layout. The Portofino uses a front mid-engine rear-wheel drive configuration, which gives it a more accessible character and a longer, more refined body at 4,586mm. The 488 Spider uses a rear mid-engine layout, placing the engine directly behind the seats for sharper weight distribution and more focused handling. The Portofino produces 600HP versus the 488 Spider’s 670HP and is 0.5 seconds slower to 60mph. It is the right choice for those who want the Ferrari open-top experience with a more relaxed, day-to-day character. The 488 Spider is the choice for those who want the more focused, rear mid-engine sports car experience.

Every vehicle in our fleet is maintained to the highest standards to ensure safety, performance, and a flawless driving experience.
The Portofino covers ground in a way that feels unhurried even at pace. The front mid-engine layout gives it a flowing quality through direction changes that suits UK A-roads very well. It is longer than the 488 Spider and more comfortable at motorway cruising speeds, making it a better choice for longer UK trips. The seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is smooth in Comfort mode and sharp in Sport. With the roof down at speeds below 50mph wind intrusion is well controlled, and the rear screen reduces turbulence at higher speeds. For a Heathrow to Edinburgh run or a weekend in the Cotswolds with the top down, it is the most practical open-top Ferrari in the fleet.
