Hire an Audi Q5 in the UK

The Audi Q5 is the mid size SUV in the Audi range, sitting between the compact Q3 and the full size Q7 in dimensions and positioning. The current second generation Q5 uses a 2.0-litre four cylinder TFSI engine in 45 TFSI specification producing 265HP and 370Nm of torque, driving all four wheels through a seven speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox and the quattro all-wheel drive system. It reaches 62mph in 5.9 seconds and has a top speed limited to 150mph. The Q5 is built on the Volkswagen Group MLB Evo platform, the same architecture as the Q7 and Q8, which gives it the same structural rigidity and quattro system refinement as the larger Audi SUVs in a more compact and easier-to-manage body. At 4,663mm long, 1,893mm wide and 1,664mm tall, its substantially smaller than the Q7 and more suited to urban driving and tighter car parks while still providing a genuinely practical five seat interior with 550 litres of boot space with all seats in use, expanding to 1,550 litres with the rear seats folded. The virtual cockpit digital instrument display and the MMI touch response dual screen system are standard on S line specification, giving the Q5 the same interior technology interface as the larger Q7 and Q8.

Q5 vs Q7 and Q8 – which size is right?

The Q5, Q7 and Q8 all use quattro all wheel drive and share the same Audi interior technology standard. The differences are in size, seating and character. The Q5 seats five, is 4,663mm long and is the most manoeuvrable of the three in cities and car parks. The Q8 seats five, is 4,986mm long and has a sportier fastback roofline. The Q7 seats seven across three rows, is 5,063mm long and prioritises passenger space and boot capacity. For two to four passengers who want a capable premium SUV without the size and running costs of the larger models, the Q5 is the most practical choice. For groups of five with luggage the Q8 provides more boot space. For seven passengers the Q7 is the only option.

The Q5 on UK roads

The Q5 works well across all UK road types. Its 4,663mm length makes it noticeably easier to park and manoeuvre in London and other UK cities compared to the Q7 and Q8. On motorways the 265HP four-cylinder provides comfortable pace, the S tronic gearbox shifts smoothly in automatic mode, and the standard quattro system gives confident all-weather traction. Ride quality from the standard suspension is firm on UK roads but not uncomfortable. The optional sport suspension on S line specification firms the ride further in exchange for sharper body control. For a UK hire covering a mix of urban driving, motorway travel and rural routes, the Q5 covers all three without requiring the driver to manage the size of the larger Audi SUVs in the fleet.

Audi Q5 self-drive hire requirements

To hire the Audi Q5 with Starr Luxury Cars you will need a full UK or EU driving licence held for a minimum of 3 years, no more than 6 penalty points, and be at least 25 years of age. A refundable security deposit is required at the time of booking. Standard packages include 100 miles per day. Additional mileage can be pre-purchased at the time of booking.
