Hire a Porsche 911 Carrera S in the UK

The Porsche 911 Carrera S is the starting point for serious 911 performance. 450bhp from a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six, rear-wheel drive, 0-60 in 3.9 seconds with the PDK gearbox and a 191mph top speed. It is lighter than the Carrera 4 (no AWD system), more focused than the standard Carrera, and sits just below the GTS in the 911 range. The Carrera S is the car Porsche built to be exceptional rather than compromised — it has the engine and chassis to cover ground very quickly, and a cabin that is refined enough to make long-distance driving comfortable without effort. If you want the core 911 experience without additional trim packages or heavier AWD hardware, the Carrera S is the right choice.

Carrera S vs GTS — Which One?

If you’re deciding between the Carrera GTS and the Carrera S, the differences are specific. The GTS produces 443bhp — actually 7bhp less than the Carrera S’s 450bhp — but Porsche rates it faster to 60mph (3.7 seconds vs 3.9) because Sport Chrono comes as standard on the GTS rather than as a cost option. The GTS also adds a wider body, standard Alcantara interior, black exterior trim and a sport exhaust from the factory. If you want those GTS-specific features, the GTS is worth it. If you want the purest Carrera S experience — lighter, cleaner specification, same fundamental performance — the Carrera S delivers everything that matters.

The Porsche 911 Carrera S on UK Roads

The 911 Carrera S rewards a driver who knows what they’re doing and is forgiving enough for one who doesn’t. Rear-wheel drive and a rear-mounted engine means the balance feels different from any front-engine car — the weight is behind you, and the steering communicates exactly what the front tyres are doing. On a clear A-road through the Cotswolds, Peak District or Scottish Highlands it is one of the most satisfying sports cars available for self-drive hire in the UK. In London it is compact enough to park easily and composed enough in traffic not to be a chore.
