The entire R8 range was hand assembled at the Bollinger Hofe facility in Heilbronn, a dedicated low volume production site separate from Audi’s main factories. The aluminium and carbon fibre Space Frame chassis was engineered at Audi Sport in Neckarsulm, and the entire car is hand assembled at the Bollinger Hofe facility in a process that takes significantly longer per car than a conventional production line.

With the final production run completed in 2023, every R8 now in existence is one of the last examples of a naturally aspirated mid engine supercar from a major manufacturer. Audi has confirmed the R8 nameplate will not continue in its current form. The Audi RSQ8

The RSQ8 takes the Q8 SUV body and installs the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 shared with the Lamborghini Urus, producing 600HP and 800Nm of torque. It reaches 62mph in 3.8 seconds from a car that seats five adults and carries a full boot. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system provides torque fill at low engine speeds and enables cylinder deactivation at steady cruise speeds. Quattro all wheel drive and active anti roll bars manage the body control of a 2,320kg SUV to a degree that makes the RSQ8 feel significantly more composed in corners than the weight and height figures would suggest.
