Koenigsegg was founded as recently as 1994 in Sweden by  Christian von Koenigsegg, who was inspired to create a ‘world class’ supercar that would take the luxury supercar market by storm.

Over 10 years of research and development went into producing the very first Koenigsegg which was built to be street legal in 2002.

4 years later in 2006, Koenigsegg began production of the second model, the CCX, which was the first car to have their very own in-house engine made especially for this very supercar.

The CCX is now street-legal in almost every country across the globe, including the United Kingdom and the United States.

A few years later, Koenigsegg produced the CCXR which was formally chosen by Forbes as being one of the most ‘beautiful cars in the history of car manufacturing’.

Not long after this prestigious accolade, BBC’s Top Gear voted it the ‘Hypercar of the Year Award’ to critical acclaim.

Aside from developing and producing the finest supercars on the planet, Koenigsegg is now heavily involved with “green technology” which has started with the introduction of the CCXR (“Flower Power”) flex-fuel supercar and more recently, the “Agera R”.

Koenigsegg proudly manufactures most of the main systems, subsystems and components needed for their cars in-house instead of relying on subcontractors like many alternative supercar brands.

By the end of 2016, Koenigsegg has just shy of 100 expert employees and the engineering department alone has over 25 employees working around the clock to create the next range of Koenigsegg supercars.
