EUROPE SELF DRIVE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Europe Starr Luxury Cars – Self drive car hire. (Last Updated 11th February 2025)
Definitions.
Hirer/Client – Person or Company named in Contract or entity on behalf of whom the agreement is signed with the understanding of hiring the vehicle.
Company – Starr Luxury Cars LTD (Company Registration 10012187)
Vehicle – The vehicle described on the rental agreement or any replacement vehicle, or any vehicle offered in extensions of agreement.
Accessories – The spare wheel, tyres, tools, handbook and service vouchers and all other equipment and items with which the vehicle is supplied and any replacements thereof.
Hire Period – The period from the ‘Date and Time Out’ specified on the Rental Agreement/Check Sheet Report until the re-delivery of the vehicle into the physical custody of the Company.
Hire/Rental Fee or Charges – The total charge for the hire of the vehicle to the Hirer calculated in line with the method set out on the Booking Form/Rental Agreement. All payments due to the company must be made on or before due date. Any failure of payments will be classed as a default by the hirer, and the company reserves the right to void the hire agreement with loss of deposits or previous payments. The Company is not obliged to provide the vehicles when there has been a default.
Hire Agreement – The agreement set out in the Terms and Conditions and all paperwork, including check sheet and other documentation. By signing this agreement or any document as part of your hire vehicle supplied by Starr Luxury Cars, you are in agreement with all our terms and conditions and any further terms invoked by our partner supplier.
Hire Period
The hire period are days set out and rates apply per day as within a 24hrs period.
The Dates and times of the hire period may not be extended without the Company’s express authorisation.
If the hirer/Client wishes to extend the hire period, the company must be informed at least 12 hours before the end of the hire period. Failure to do so may result in an extension fee.
The Company will use all reasonable endeavours to have the Vehicle available for delivery or collection on the date specified but shall not incur any liability in the event of any delay.
Hirer’s Obligations
The hirer must look after the vehicle and the keys. You must always lock the vehicle when unattended and use any security device fitted to or supplied with the vehicle.
It is the hirer’s responsibility to protect the vehicle from bad weather which can cause damage.
The correct fuel must be used.
The hirer must be sure that the vehicle is only used on public roads and for normal driving purposes. Any off-road usage without prior consent means the hirer accepts full responsibility for all damage incurred.
The hirer must not allow unauthorised repairs.
The hirer is responsible for their additional driver complying with these Terms and Conditions.
At the end of the hire period, the hirer must return the vehicle in the same condition as received, wear and tear accepted.
The hirer agrees to be liable for all damage to the vehicle while in their possession and to pay for reasonable repair costs.
The hirer remains liable for the vehicle until a member of the company inspects it.
The hirer permits the company to inspect the vehicle at any time.
The hirer will bear the cost of repair for any damage caused by abuse, negligence or improper use.
The hirer will indemnify the Company against all fines, penalties and liabilities arising from non-compliance with transport, traffic, or other regulations.
The hirer will indemnify the company for recovery costs if the vehicle becomes stuck or immobilised.
Company’s Obligations
The company maintains the vehicle to at least the manufacturer’s recommended standard and ensures it is roadworthy and suitable for renting at the start of the rental period.
The company is responsible if someone is injured or dies due to its negligence.
The company is not responsible for financial loss due to missed opportunity or inconvenience.
If a vehicle is unavailable, the company will offer a 100% refund or a substitute vehicle.
The company’s liability is limited to a refund of the hire fee.
Conditions for Use of Vehicle
The hirer may use the vehicle for business, social, domestic, and pleasure purposes.
The vehicle must not be used for hire or reward, racing, testing, or track days unless permission has been granted.
The hirer must not drive the vehicle outside England, Scotland, and Wales without written permission.
The hirer must not drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol—this will result in loss of deposit.
The vehicle must not be used for illegal purposes.
Only pre-approved additional drivers may drive the vehicle.
Payments
All self-drive hire payments are paid in advance.
A 50% booking deposit is required if hiring more than 14 days in advance.
For bookings within 14 days, the full hire fee is due.
Payments must be made via bank transfer and must clear before confirmation.
A refundable security deposit is required before hire and returned within 1-2 weeks after hire, minus any fines or extra charges.
Charges
Charges are based on demand, season, duration, vehicle type, and specifications.
A refuelling service charge of €60 applies, plus fuel costs.
If the hire period is extended, the hirer must pay in advance.
Late payments incur 4% interest per week.
If payment defaults, the hirer must pay collection, agency, solicitor, and court costs.
The company reserves the right to increase costs due to external factors.
The hirer is responsible for all charges incurred during hire.
In case of damage, hirer must compensate up to 30 days rental loss.
The hirer is responsible for all traffic fines and penalties, with a €60 admin fee for processing.
Mileage
Mileage is tracked via the vehicle’s recording device and tracker.
Mileage is set per day allowance unless otherwise stated.
Excess mileage incurs additional charges.
Insurance
All vehicles are insured on self-drive hire cover.
Additional drivers cost a minimum of €75 and must be pre-approved.
Insurance excess varies from €3,000 to €50,000, depending on the vehicle.
Taking a vehicle outside the country requires permission.
If using own insurance, the company must approve the policy.
Only named individuals on the hire or insurance documents may drive.
If an unauthorised driver operates the vehicle, the deposit is forfeited.
Accident
In case of an accident, the hirer must not admit responsibility.
The hirer must obtain names and addresses of those involved and witnesses.
The hirer must secure the vehicle and inform the company immediately.
If injuries occur or there is a dispute, the hirer must inform the police immediately.
Cancellation Policy
The company may cancel the hire if weather conditions are unsuitable, with an option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
If the car is faulty, the company may offer an alternative or refund.
The company reserves the right to refuse hire at any time.
Cancellation charges apply:
- 50% of the hire fee if cancelled 30+ days before the start date.
- 75% of the hire fee if cancelled 7 to 30 days before the start date.
- 100% of the hire fee if cancelled within 7 days of the start date.
