It may surprise you to know that Rolls-Royce was created over a famously boozy lunch which was brokered by Henry Edmunds at the infamous Midland Hotel in Manchester all the way back on 4th May 1904.

Henry Edmunds brought together at the time including Charles Rolls who was a very successful car dealer and Henry Royce who was one of the most successful engineers during the time as well. The rest as they say, is history…

Charles Rolls spent his school life at the prestigious Cambridge university and unsurprisingly was one of the very first of the undergraduates to own their own car at the time and quickly went on to a racing career which helped fund his own passion which was to create his own car dealership.

In around 1993, Charles Rolls was on the hunt for a supplier of good old fashioned and most importantly, reliable British cars. It was during this search that he came across Henry Royce who at the time was a very accomplished pilot.

Amazingly, he was also the first person to double cross the English Channel. Tragically, Henry Royce would later be killed when his aircraft crashed during a show in 1910.

The passion for engineering that Henry Royce had allowed him to setup his own business at the tender age of just 21. he was also know for his remarkable attention to detail in his own pursuit of perfection. It is these values that has led to Rolls Royce becoming one of the most recognisable brands in the luxury car market in the world.
