The Avanza is a compact MPV which has been around for nearly 15 years now while the current model has been on the market since 2013. In the meantime, it received an updated a few months ago with the Toyota Avanza 2016 which includes a more pleasing exterior, an updated running gear as well as more features inside the cabin.
This model will also be sold in India now for a very competitive price considering it is a minivan that offers up to seven seats.
The mid-life update of the car is expected to become one of Toyotas best selling cars in India and some parts of Asia, right after their current best selling model, the Innova, which is another seven seats crossover.
TOYOTA AVANZA 2016 PRICE
However, unlike the Innova, the smaller Avanza is based on a cars chassis, so it doesnt offer the body-on frame design of the latter. Also, it is much lighter as well as more economical, so it might be better suited for most people. The price starts around $14,000, which is a lot better than its sibling, while a fully fledged model will not go past $17,000 which is very good for what it has to offer.
TOYOTA AVANZA SPECS
Engine wise, there are two different units available in the car. The base model gets a naturally aspirated 1.3 liter inline 4 petrol engine which despite its size can offer up to 95 horsepower and 121 N*m of torque, enough to move the tiny car with haste. The option comes in the form of a similar engine to this but with a larger 1.5 liter displacement. This will offer a bit more at roughly 110 horsepower and 130 N*m of torque which will make the car feel quite a bit sportier than the base engine. While the first one is only available with a 5 speed manual, the larger engine gets a CVT automatic as standard which will offer improved fuel efficiency and a more relaxed driving style.
INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR
In terms of exterior design, the Toyota Avanza 2016 is offering a really appealing look which is following Toyotas latest “X-grille” look. The front end features either a large grille with an aggressive looking bumper with integrated DRLs or a conventional grille and a bumper featuring a large air intake and two round fog-lamps. 14 or 15 inch rims are available on the car while the top end model can be had with an optional “Aerokit” which will add bumper extensions and side-skirts.
Inside the cabin, the car is offering seven standard seats and a rather simple-looking dashboard which only offers basic features. The top end models get more equipment such as climate control and a satellite navigation unit but the dull design remains present.
