Let’s not forget that the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is also notably lighter, in a nod to its suitability for on-track racing. The vehicle weighs just 1415kg and sits 30mm lower on the floor than the standard Cayman to help speed you towards pole position.
Soaring around the track
Perhaps one of the most impressive changes with the new Cayman is its ability to adapt to both on-track and on-road driving. A racing car at its heart, there’s no denying that gaining speed is a key focus. Both the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Torque Vectoring technologies are included as standard, with individual damper tuning and RS-specific spring rates. This eliminates the need for the double-wishbone front suspension originally seen on the 911. Larger brakes and the option for ceramic models allow you to boost stopping power while the loud roar of the engine envelopes you in the vehicle’s undeniable presence. The car has been tuned to perfection. The throttle response is impressively sharp with smooth power delivery and crisp up changes.

You’ll even find a boot large enough to fit two overnight bags – even with the addition of a roll cage for racing protection.
Slip into the driving seat
Yes – the exterior of the GT4 RS exudes racing elegance but the interior certainly hasn’t been overlooked either. At the first glance, the marque’s integral motorsport ties are abundantly obvious. At the heart of the GT4 RS-specific steering wheel, the Porsche badge sits amidst black and white gearshift paddles. The cockpit is perfectly honed for the driver, ensuring all controls are within ergonomic reach and information is quickly digestible. Full bucket seats, manufactured from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, provide good support without adding bulk to the vehicle. Branding embroidery and the option of different seat centres allow for heightened personalisation on every model.
You and your passenger will sit enveloped in non-slip Race-Tec, partnered with a carbon-weave finish and door loops that are only ever found on the race track. Storage nets reduce weight, pair back frills and help you to fully immerse yourself in the essence of this speed-inspired model. While the vehicle doesn’t have a manual option, the addition of the PDK gear selector takes on the appearance of a traditional gear lever with added yellow accents to match. Track ready from the outside in
As we mentioned above, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is first and foremost a creation of optimal aerodynamics. It has been carefully refined in every aspect, reducing drag and allowing the top speed to sit within reach. An adjustable front diffuser reduces air resistance to the max, heightening stability and ensuring high speeds around tough corners remain achievable. The CFRP used to construct the bonnet is detailed with air intakes, designed to reduce overheating in the brake system and, in turn, performance. Further ventilation can be found in the wheel arch ventilation and in place of traditionally-placed rear side windows.
At the back, one of the car’s most distinctive features is the fixed rear wing. The higher placement drives air over the surface without hindrance with the option to set this manually for use on the track. All of this focus on speed certainly doesn’t mean that safety has been overlooked. The GT4 RS boasts a titanium roll cage that remains lightweight and offers protection in the event of a crash.
